De thema's zijn bekend uit Stap 3, Stap 3 plus en Stap 3 vooruitdenken en de lagere stappen. Voor de plusboeken waren er tot dusver geen gemixte oefeningen. Voor alle oefeningen is er de simpele opdracht: Speel de beste zet. Net als in een echte partij weet je niet of je kunt winnen of je moet verdedigen. Welke aanvalsdoelen zijn er? Wat dreigt de tegenstander? Is het tijd om te remise te maken? Kortom, van alles wat.
Twee soorten opgaven zijn anders: er is op elke bladzijde een meerkeuzevraag en een opgave met een variant onder het bord die je moet aanvullen. Alleen op de laatste 8 bladzijden staat het thema aangegeven: 2 pagina's matplanners en 6 met mat in twee problemen.

Encore un livre sur le principe “move by move”, créé jadis par Chernev.et repris ensuite par Nunn, McDonald et quelques moindres. C'est ici l'auteur de How to defend in chess et Great Attackers qui s'y colle, avec un certain bonheur - même s'il n'a pu éviter les redites et enfonçages de portes ouvertes qui sont la loi du genre. Reste que les joueurs de tous niveaux trouveront agrément et profit à découvrir ces 33 parties ultra-récentes (2005-08) commentées en (grand) détail.

A book for beginners or teachers. It's a well-done book, the author is a famous professor in the USA and more specifically in Illinois. His method seems clear: the study of simple positions with few pieces on the chessboard, and the further you go, the more you'll have pieces and complex positions to resolve. This method isn't really new, but it should work perfectly.

Georgy Lisitsin (1909-72) was a respected Soviet master, theoretician and writer. In 1958 he published a revised edition of his most ambitious work, entitled Strategy and Tactics of Chess, which became one of the most legendary manuals in the Soviet chess school, and no doubt one of the books that motivated the young Bobby Fischer to learn Russian.

Lisitsin broke down Strategy and Tactics into their constituent elements, enabling players of all levels to study chess systematically, learning from carefully selected game fragments and studies.
