BEZGODOV - The liberated bishop defence
In many 1.d4 openings, Black has trouble getting his bishop on c8 into play. Former Russian Chess Champion Alexey Bezgodov presents a radical solution to this nagging problem; liberate your bishop right away and put it on f5 on the second move!
Play 2...Bf5! against either 2.c4 or 2.Nf3 will surprise your opponent and is also a great way to support your development, because the bishop takes control of the important square e4. If White does not immediately take decisive action, then within a move or two he can relinquish any hopes on an opening advantage.

Premier titre d'une nouvelle série Everyman, opportunément consacré à une ouverture bizarrement négligée par les éditeurs: rien de consistant n'était sorti sur la 'vraie' Slave (i.e. avec 4...dxc4) depuis le Burgess paru chez Gambit, il y a bien 10 ans... comme toujours chez l'éditeur, la formule est très 'user-friendly', avec des parties complètes, des explications détaillées, un système de questions-réponses et même des petits exercices. Idéal pour le joueur moyen, mais les costauds pourront aussi en tirer du profit.

Oui, cest bien le Bauer que vous croyez. Comme quoi les joueurs français aussi peuvent écrire des livres... en anglais, of course. En quatre sections (1.e4 b6, 1.d4 b6, 1.c4 b6 et 1.Cf3 b6) et 82 parties complètes, notre Christian national nous raconte tout sur une ouverture multiforme quil est un des rares à pratiquer au plus haut niveau. Les analyses sont très fouillées, et je doute que lon trouve mieux sur le sujet avant longtemps...

Et pour tout dire, pas vraiment ici de réponse claire - seul l'habituel corpus des ''''Warnings'''', ''''Tips'''', ''''Theoretical status'''' et tutti quanti rappelle que l'on se trouve dans un Starting out. Reste donc une monographie sérieuse, complète et didactique (même si le style de l'auteur est parfois un peu confus) sur un sujet original, passionnant et rarement traité - le Alekhine's Defence de Davies, seul sur le marché jusqu'à présent, ayant tout de même bientôt quatre ans.''

YAKOVICH - Play the 4 f3 Nimzo-Indian
The Nimzo-Indian is an extremely popular and reliable defence, upon which most world champions have relied at some point in their careers. Black controls the vital e4-square with his pieces, and retains total flexibility with his central pawns. By playing 4 f3, White challenges Black's idea head-on. Either Black grants White control of e4, or else he must commit his pawn to d5, whereupon White can begin concrete action in the centre. The result is sharp, forcing play of a type that is rare in the early stages of most Nimzo-Indians. 4 f3 is an excellent choice for ambitious players who are willing to prepare carefully, as it can be used to steamroller opponents who have not worked out an accurate response.
